Overview
The Banyan Medical System is a network of institutions in Eastside including a college, at least four major hospitals, and a range of other auxiliary medical services. The Banyan system works closely with the DisCity authorities and is a powerful part of the status quo within the city-state. The FAC utilizes Banyan system psychiatrists to hypnotize survivors of Mania crises and erase their memories to prevent future mental contamination. The Banyan system also has close ties to Nirvana, with at least one of its hospitals being little more than a front for Nirvana-directed illegal experimentation and imprisonment of the company's political opponents.
The Banyan system is named after Banyan, the Keylan expedition team's medical expert. As Banyan did not return alive from the expedition, it is likely that the first Banyan Hospital was founded by Dr. Keylan and named in her posthumous honor. Each hospital is administered by a director, with the overarching Banyan Medical System run by a Dean.
Banyan Medical College
Banyan Medical College is one of the most elite and prestigious educational institutions in DisCity, and provides training in a wide array of fields. Banyan Medical College educated practitioners as diverse as Anne (nursing), Iron (neurology), Chameleon (psychotherapy), and Uni (cosmetic surgery). Banyan Medical College also produces large amounts of medical research, including developing the M-Value metric for evaluating the severity of Mania contamination.
First Hospital
Banyan First Hospital is a medical facility in Eastside. Christina is treated in a special ward there twice during the Blockade Operation conflicts.
Fourth Hospital
The Banyan Fourth Hospital is a psychiatric hospital in Eastside. It's director is named Jones. Although on the surface it appears as a normal hospital and operates with a veneer of legitimate medical practice, the Fourth Hospital is little more than a front for illegal activities by the megacorporation Nirvana. Nirvana utilizes the Fourth Hospital's psychiatric wards as an illegal prison for its political opponents, and engages in covert human experimentation on its patients. Donald was kept prisoner in the Banyan Fourth Hospital from N.F. 105 to N.F. 112.
Syndicate Branch Hospital
In late N.F. 113, Donald and the Chief of the MBCC successfully pressured Banyan to open a new hospital in the newly revitalized West District by blackmailing the system's Dean with evidence of the Fourth Hospital's illegal activities. The Syndicate Branch Hospital was established to treat the Mania symptoms common in West District's population after the destruction of BR-002. Das Arz, one of the Fourth Hospital's few legitimate doctors, was instituted as the new hospital's director.
