Profile
Basic Information
Name: Nightingale
Birthplace: Eastside (presumed)
Affiliation: MBCC
Gender: Female
Background
Nightingale is the Vice-Chief and Adjutant to the Chief of the MBCC. Nightingale is disciplined and dutiful, almost to a fault. Though she often seems to have difficulty keeping up with the Chief, she is unfailingly loyal and frequently covers for them while they are out of contact with her or otherwise making unsanctioned or unanticipated moves. Nightingale may be more knowledgeable about the inner workings of DisCity and the Chief's forgotten past than she lets on. During the year before the Chief's reawakening in N.F. 112, the position of Chief at the Bureau was unfilled, and Nightingale fulfilled all duties of the role. She is often seen interacting directly with authorities in Paradeisos, usually defending the Chief's unorthodox actions, and was aware of the danger posed by Shalom when she was dispatched as a special envoy to the MBCC in November of N.F. 112.
Nightingale wields dual pistols and a device that generates a force field shield. While not a Sinner herself and usually relegated to behind-the-scenes duties, Nightingale seems capable enough to go toe to toe with some Sinners in combat.
Role
Main Story
Raid Minos
When Suspect R interrupts the Chief's consciousness repair program during the MBCC prison break, Nightingale comes to the Chief's rescue. Although she initially planned to get the Chief to safety until reinforcements arrive, their determination to fight causes her to change tack and send them deeper into the prison to awaken the Shackles. When the Chief returns with Hella and Hecate, the four of them pursue Shapeshifter to the Underground Sinner Experiment Area, but she escapes after finishing the destruction of the Bureau.
SALVA Chaos
Nightingale briefs the Chief on their classified mission to resolve the riots in Syndicate. She loses touch with them in Syndicate, but communication is restored when the Chief makes contact with Ted. Nightingale directs them to find K.K., who had been detained and stashed in a dumpster where the Chief would be able to find and Shackle her. She then severs communications until the Bureau is able to identify the source of the mission leak.
Unclaimed Crypt
When the Chief emerges from the Inheritance's crypt, they contact the MBCC and provide an oral account of their mission, which Nightingale sorts out and reports back to the Public Security Bureau. She leads a small team to recover the Chief, expressing the Bureau's gratitude by not seeking to arrest any members of The Legion. Nightingale also relates the Public Security Bureau's request to meet with Zoya to discuss the amendment of the West District Order Management Regulations.
Keylan Square
When the Chief allows themself to be "captured" by the Legion in order to get away from the Public Security Bureau, Nightingale attempts to make contact with them but is told that the Legion will harm the Chief unless she stops by Earl. The Chief is unsure whether Nightingale will believe that that is what happened, but is certain that she is loyal enough to trust them and play along even if she sees through the ruse. 036 later confirms that Nightingale understood the truth of the situation and explained it to him so that he would not think that the Chief had defected to The Legion.
Nightingale appears in the chapter's epilogue, protesting to Paradeisos about the Chief's arrest on suspicion of their involvement with Zoya and The Legion before the appearance of the BR-004.
Carnival
When Langley takes the Chief and their Sinners out of FAC custody and brings them to BR-001, Nightingale argues with her, saying that she is already going through the appropriate procedures to clear the Chief's name. Nightingale recognizes that the Chief may not trust her, but urges them not to put themself in danger again. The Chief sympathizes, remembering how Nightingale risked her own life to protect them during the MBCC prison break, but insists that it was their own decision to enter another Black Ring.
When the Chief dispels Hamel's illusory world and BR-001 goes out of control, Nightingale meets with the authorities who accuse the Chief of intentionally sabotaging the FAC's defenses and freeing the Black Ring. She retorts that their accusation is baseless, and suggests that they instead focus on their own job of strengthening the defenses. When the Black Ring is subsequently eliminated, she meets with the Chief and vows to support their future choices and not to doubt their decisions or abilities. She also fills them in on what the FAC has found in the wreckage of the Carnival, reporting that, to their surprise, they have found no other survivors nor Corruptors since the disappearance of the Ring.
Drifter Camp
When the Chief returns to Keylan Square, Nightingale reminds them to stay cautious, due to their continued poor physical condition from their previous run-ins with Black Rings. She dispatches K.K. to recover the Chief from Drifter Camp, and later at K.K.'s behest researches the history of the Reconstruction Executive Committee and Rustfire.
Oblivion Depth
Two days after the Drifter Camp crisis, Nightingale informs the Chief that the FAC has dispatched troops to Syndicate, but their commitment remains a small number. This is because the City Council has ordered them to prioritize protecting Eastside due to the large number of Mania crises that have occurred there recently (such as the Sleepwalker incident, the Witching Hour, and other in-game events).
Events
Night of Wonder
With the Chief missing, Nightingale becomes acting Chief of the MBCC and organizes a team to recover them from the Belphegor Art Museum. Lisa praises Nightingale's cynical strategy of sending Hella and EMP together as a distraction so that Hecate and Labyrinth can infiltrate the Museum more effectively, but Nightingale denies this thought process and insists that she chose those pairings simply to maximize each other's combat abilities.
Eternal Nightmare - Illusory Moon Rising
With the Chief comatose and missing after the Rustfire rebellion, Nightingale is the acting Chief of the MBCC. Following the Ring Research Institute's refusal of support to the FAC, Nightingale joins the defense against Dreya at the third Broken Frontline. As the threat is ostensibly a Sinner, the crisis falls under her jurisdiction. When Dreya suddenly collapses mid-battle, Nightingale recognizes the Shackles' red light coming from inside her and becomes convinced that the Chief will someday return. She issues orders to detain Dreya in preparation for that day.
