Drifter Camp is an informal region of Syndicate that is close to the Inner Bay of the DisSea, and is home to many displaced individuals from both DisCity and Outland. Drifter Camp was founded by the 200 survivors of BR-002 when it appeared in N.F. 104. For many years, the residents of Drifter Camp were extorted by Syndicate's gangs and the region was considered the worst slum in DisCity. However, following the destruction of the gangs through the events that culminated in BR-004 and the defeat of the The Legion, Drifter Camp was freed to grow into a new burgeoning society in DisCity. Due to this history of oppression, the residents of Drifter Camp are fiercely opposed to everything Mania-related, and by stockpiling Hypercubes were even able to keep the area free of contamination while gang war-related Mania crises raged through the rest of Syndicate. Nevertheless, Drifter Camp is a place that people go for a final refuge, and while some have the will to fight in its defense, most of its residents have been through too much hardship to muster active resistance. Despite their poverty, Drifter Camp and its residents have formed a tight-knit and positive community, perhaps one of the only places such a thing can be found in DisCity.
Surrounded by a ramshackle shanty town, the heart of Drifter Camp is a 100 meter tall superstructure made of rusted iron, which despite its dubious appearance is the thriving center of its own self-isolated subculture. The heart of Drifter Camp is the Grand Stall, a lively and bustling plaza. This society is a haven for many with nowhere else to go, including many from Outland. Its most notable landmark is Romanesque Hall, a funeral home at the bottom of Drifter Camp's central structure, presided over by Oak Casket. Its centerpiece is the Romanesque Monument, an obelisk inscribed with the names of 13,004 victims of BR-002, around which the settlement was built.
Although smaller and less equipped than the various Syndicate gangs, Drifter Camp's residents are highly organized, making use of various traps and mechanisms designed by their de facto leader, Julien, to help keep intruders at bay. These mechanisms are all controlled via a scale model of the structure in Julien's office above the Grand Stall. Additional security measures include hand-made anti-Mania protections utilizing Hypercube as well as their paramilitary group, Rustfire.
At the end of the Ten Days of Rustfire, BR-002 reappeared in Drifter Camp. Its cataclysmic descent instantly killed the vast majority of Drifter Camp's residents and Rustfire's forces, turning the settlement into a Corruptor-filled necropolis. However, after the destruction of the Black Ring later that year, the surrounding area and its distinctive culture quickly bounced back from annihilation.
