Background
036 is the service number of the captain of FAC team N7, Special Operations Forces Against Black Rings (aka FAC-BR-N7). His real name is Hruodland (an archaic form of the name Roland) Arouet, seen written in Dis Language on his tombstone in the Chapter 6 epilogue. His tombstone also carries his date of birth, N.F. 83.09.23, making him 29 years old at the time of his death.
036 is a capable leader and fierce combatant, able to rally his faltering troops with only a few words and fight toe-to-toe with Sinners. When he fights Hecate's Nightmare, he is unphased by having his left arm dislocated and defeats the creature one-handed. He also defeats Earl in battle, and would have killed him if not for the Chief's intercession. 036 is identified by his heavy armor and ax that he wields in battle. 036 always keeps in his breastplate a photo of himself with many of his deceased companions, taking images of them from other photographs and gluing them on to the same group picture whenever more members of his squadron die.

036 is part of the group led by Nightingale to protect the Chief during the MBCC prison break. He stays behind to hold off a group of escaped prisoners, which includes Wendy and EMP, while the Chief descends into the prison to meet Hecate and awaken the shackles.
Keylan Square
036 reappears as the leader of FAC Squad N7, an elite anti-Black Ring taskforce. When the Chief is "captured" by The Legion, 036 leads the charge to rescue them, fighting fiercely despite the presumed risk to the Chief's life from their captors. He defeats both Nightmare and Earl in combat, but realizes that the Chief is willingly working with the Legion when they distract him long enough for Earl to escape with his life.
When the Mania crisis begins, 036 and his team rescue the Chief, Hella, and Hecate from Corruptors. He gives the Chief a personal Mania blocker, which alleviates the mental strain from the shackles connected to Zoya. The Chief explains what they know about the PSB, Inheritance, and Zoya. 036 suspects from their account that Zoya has used the Inheritance that she sealed away to retaliate against the authorities, but the Chief insists that through the shackles he can tell that Zoya is fighting against the Inheritance. 036 chooses to believe them, and lays out their goal: kill Zoya before a Black Ring appears. When the Chief refuses to accept this, 036 keeps the peace between the MBCC's Sinners and his own men. He explains the threat of the Black Ring and insists that the only way to stop BR-004 is to kill Zoya, but is patient with the Chief's refusal to accept that and remains open to finding another resolution, if such a thing is possible through the shackles.
When they reach Zoya, she mindlessly attacks them and 036 is severely wounded. He attempts to stop Earl from triggering the Black Ring, but is too injured to do much, and BR-004 descends. Feedback from Zoya drives the Chief to madness, and they beat 036 to death with their bare hands. Nevertheless, with his last breath, 036 gives the Chief his last Hypercube, providing enough of a shield to break them out of their Mania.
