Overview
The Rust, also referred to as the Isolation Belt and formerly known as Grace River, is an area of DisCity between Eastside and Syndicate. The Rust is a vast dumping ground for waste, filled with Mania contamination and inhabited by innumerable monsters and Corruptors. Once a beautiful and densely populated part of the city, the current state of the Rust is due to the corruption that poured into it from BR-001 for 23 years. Its valley terrain acts as a natural barrier, allowing contamination to settle in the Rust without traveling into either neighboring district. Since then, the Rust has also been used as a dumping ground for pollutants and contaminated biological tissues, which doubles as the official explanation for its corrupted state while the Black Ring remains a matter of state secrecy.
The region's decline predates the DisSea Explosion that destroyed so much of DisCity. Grace River began drying up in N.F. 50, but its ecology rapidly deteriorated after N.F. 84, when the contamination dumping began. Fluorescent poisonous plants grow on the riverbed, and periodic red hurricanes rip through the region. Rumor has it that reminders of DisCity's past can be glimpsed among the winds.
Scavengers are known to live within the abandoned areas of the Rust, making ends meet by scavenging scrap material for sale while avoiding wandering Corruptors within the area. Many gangs use the Rust as their secret vault to stash looted wealth. The Rust is also a home to some Sinners who are unwilling or incapable of being a part of any human society, such as Wendy and Wolverine. It was the location of the Laboratory of PARMA until the facility was trashed by Summer.
DisCity Carnival
Before the Rust became contaminated, the DisCity Carnival was a popular amusement park in Grace River. The Carnival was closed after the DisSea Explosion in N.F. 84, and remained that way until the FAC was able to get BR-000 under control. The Carnival's reopening in N.F. 89 was meant to be a celebration of the city's recovery, but on N.F. 89.06.27, the third day of its reopening celebration, BR-001 appeared in the middle of the Carnival.
