Background
Doyle is an inspector for the Public Security Bureau in Eastside and informant for the 9th Agency. He was a highly decorated officer, once solving more cases in one month than the rest of the Bureau did for an entire year, and is often referred to as the "incredible inspector." However, Doyle's dedication to his work and his short temper estranged his wife, Nasha, and led to their divorce. After that, Doyle degenerated into an alcoholic and ultimately was demoted as his reliability disappeared.

Dreamy Bubble
While asleep in an Eastside bar, Doyle overhears rumors about Sleepwalkers reappearing on DeadLover Radio. He becomes agitated, insisting that the Sleepwalkers are his case, despite having been recently demoted. To calm him, Serpent passes him a glass of Ambrosia, which he drinks unquestioningly.
Due to his experience with the Marv case, the 9th Agency puts the Chief into contact with Doyle to investigate the Sleepwalker incident. He is aggressive and unreliable, initially telling the Chief to back off of his case and missing their first meeting due to drunkenness. However, he quickly regains his vigor once the investigation is underway. After the Chief is forced into Roulecca's dream by Mess, Doyle abducts the server at the bar where her Ambrosia was served and uses him to track down Mess's hideout. Doyle also tells the Chief about the Marv case, and suggests that they should back out before things get dangerous. Realizing that Doyle wants to protect them and that his life could easily be ruined by the coming Mania conflict, the Chief contacts the 9th Agency and has them divert him from the investigation. This comes in the form of a false notice that his ex-wife Nasha was attacked by a Sleepwalker and was hospitalized.
Doyle quickly realizes the deception and returns to the case, investigating the Midsummer Night's Club. He discovered that the M-value detection network in the club's district had been tampered with, and that Eirene regularly met with Sinners at the club, beginning speculation within the 9th Agency that Eirene may be a Sinner herself. However, before the 9th Agency and FAC can organize a raid on the club, Serpent ambushes and abducts him.
Inside his dream, Doyle is reunited with Nasha. The Chief enters his dream and attempts to remind him that it is an illusion, but Doyle refuses to hear it and throws them out, saying that Nasha is more important to him than the case. But even after the Chief departs, reminders of the outside world and the escalating crisis continue to slip in to Doyle's dream. Eventually, even the memory of Nasha becomes concerned about the unfolding disaster, and its spread threatens to harm the real Nasha in the waking world. Tearfully, Doyle accepts that he has to face the consequences of his actions that caused him to lose his wife, and leaves home again to return to work.
Doyle emerges into the center of Serpent's Realm of Dreams, much to her horror that he would willingly leave behind the idyllic life that he yearned for. He attacks Serpent and restrains her, giving the Chief time to battle Marv, destroy the Realm of Dreams, and end the crisis.
An uncertain amount of time later, Doyle speaks with the Chief over the phone and tells them that he's on vacation and not going to break that for any work. He invites them to have dinner with him the next time they're in Eastside, and assures them that although he's still a grumpy old man, he has become genuinely happy.
Flora Unfurl
While Christina is investigating the crime scene of Anania's assassination, Doyle provides her with a dossier of the Public Security Bureau's research on Mania Flowers. It seems that he has regained his former glory as a successful and well-regarded investigator.
