A Consciousness Observatorium, or more commonly just an Observatorium, is a spiritual realm created by Paradeisos. An Observatorium represents the outermost boundary where human reason can venture into the Mania. At least three Observatoria are known to exist, but the following information is regarding the "Second Observatorium Chamber" utilized by Shalom. It is unknown how much of the following information is also true of the First and Third (or any other) Observatoria.
The Observatorium is primarily used as an observation point for the Hush system. It appears as a triangular hallway, referred to as the Corridor Zone, that ends in a vertical rift of light, beyond which lies the realm of Deep Mania. Although not quite so deep as the Source, the Observatorium penetrates the Deep Mania closer than any Black Ring. However, Paradeisos believes that if a Black Ring should ever intensify, it will forge a link to the place beyond the rift, and therefore has implemented the strictest counter-Mania protocols in the Observatorium in order to ensure that it can never be breached by the forces beyond.
The Observatorium can only be accessed by those with a "unique link" to the realm beyond the rift. It is not known how this link is formed, but Shalom inherited the Second Observatorium Chamber only after the 6th Hush was retired, some time after she was first subjected to the Hush-creating procedure. Others are able to access the Observatorium through Shalom if they come into direct contact with her spiritual energy, such as through the Shackles or Coquelic's extraction of her lifeforce.
The Observatorium is governed by strict Rules that absolutely prohibit the act of rebellion, the use of Sinners' abilities, or the presence of Mania. For Sinners, aside from the Hush, just being present within the Observatorium causes a low level of prickling, numbing pain. Nevertheless, by spending so much time within this realm, Shalom was able to become familiar with and master the Rules inside, allowing her to move and act freely without being constrained by them.
At the end of the Blockade Operation the Second Observatorium was destroyed when Shalom's rebellion led Coquelic to reach through its rift and free Rebel from imprisonment in the Deep Mania. Mania extensively contaminated the space and the Rules governing it were shattered. As a result, Paradeisos suspended usage of the Hush system until the Observatorium could be repaired.
