The Ring Research Institute in Paradeisos is DisCity's most prestigious academic institute. Considered to be at the forefront of academia, the name is synonymous with omniscience. (Summer interrogation phase 1) They are focused largely on studying the nature of Black Rings. In particular, Laplace, the only contemporary named member, states that their intention is to harness the power of one.
In Summer's interrogation, Laplace reveals the fruits of their labor: a glove that exudes the menacing aura of a Corpseborne, capable of rivaling the power of Summer's Ring Weapon. However, as Summer ultimately overpowered him in their final battle, with his body never found, the fate of the device remains unknown.
During the crisis of Dreya's appearance in the DisSea, the Ring Research Institute refused the FAC's request for backup after a week of rapidly expanding contamination and dozens of FAC deaths, claiming that it was within the bounds of normal Ring fluctuations. The crisis would go on to claim 136 lives and nearly push past the third Broken Frontline before being resolved. This response by the Ring Research Institute raises questions about the Institute's true goals and allegiances. After the Chief went missing during the Ten Days of Rustfire, the Ring Research Institute assumed direct administration of the Minos Bureau of Crisis Control.
